Microfilm v microfiche
Home > Microfilm
Document storage on microfilm vs microfiche – which is best, for what applications?
A microfilm is a miniature transparency photograph of an original document and in the form of 16mm or 35 mm rolls of film. Microfiche is similar in that it contains a matrix of micro images in a plate format.
The Microfiche is a much faster retrival system as they can all be indexed as desired on the fiche header which holds up to 60 images whereas the microfilm is a film of approximately 2500 images that would need to be searched to find the particular document required. The microfilms can be indexed onto a spreadsheet or label to help retrieval become faster. Both formats can easily be copied for security and kept in different locations. Microcopy offers a free of charge storage service on our duplicate copy microfiche, microfilms and copy CD's if scanned.
